Senior Legal Counsel – France Legal Affairs

MISSION:

You will be providing legal support to the France Legal Team, in all business affairs legal fields, notably contracts, industrial and commercial partnerships, JV, restructurings operations, energy, corporate law, environment. This function requires strong project management skills and leadership qualities. You have the ability to coach and empower colleagues and business towards efficiency and excellence.

You will provide advice and guidance on a wide variety of legal matters throughout a range of business environments in France. Our ideal candidate is also experienced and interested in French Company Law and M&A transactions and setting up complex projects and transactions, combining a knowledge of several legal areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific accountabilities and responsibilities include:
• Primarily acting as trusted senior legal advisor based in Paris. Proactively providing sound and pragmatic counseling, at the same time minimizing and mitigating legal risks.
• Advising on a wide variety of commercial and corporate matters, with a particular (but not exclusive) focus on the areas listed above.
• Delivering training to the business teams and the Legal community, as applicable, on a variety of legal matters of interest.
• Actively participating and supporting cross-border legal initiatives, regularly sharing best practices, new challenges or developments, innovations and efficiency-related projects.
• Keeping an open line of communication with other members of Group Legal and reporting functionally on matters of relevance.
• Supporting special projects and benchmarking initiatives among others.

Competencies and Experience :
• Around 10 years of work experience on a wide-range of legal matters in the area of commercial and company law, with a particular focus on corporate matters, M&A transactions, negotiation of joint venture/shareholders/partnership agreements, corporate finance, restructurings, as well as setting up and/or coordinating complex projects and transactions.
• Experience in an international law firm or (global/international) company is a prerequisite.
• Fluent in English and in French (both orally and in writing).

Education :
• Master’s degree in Law obtained at a French university (e.g. Business law would be desirable).
• Bar experience or membership in France at a minimum.

• Strong drafting skills, particularly in English form.

• Strong change management capabilities and leadership competencies, (flexible and open to embracing changes - future forward looking mentality).
• Ability to self-motivate and striving to “go the extra mile”.
• Assertive but constructive.
• Excellent team player, collaborative and with high work ethics.

Travel:
• The position will be located in St. Denis, France but you might have to travel from time to time, mostly within Europe.
