The Role and Legal team

The Cognizant legal team has many experts in different fields and all around the Globe.

In the EMEA region, our team consists of about 60 lawyers in around 10 countries and we are currently looking to add support to the team. Most of us are commercial and technology lawyers but we have specialists in many other fields, including privacy, employment law, M&A, intellectual property and corporate compliance.

We are currently looking for an experienced lawyer to form an integral part of the continued rapid growth of Cognizant’s French operations, both in terms of existing service lines and new growth areas. The role will involve daily exposure to our clients and Cognizant senior management. Reporting into the Legal Head of France, you will work very closely with Cognizant’s legal, business and supporting functions team around the world as a member of the EMEA team.

The role
• You will be an integral part of the French business both in terms of existing service lines and new growth areas but you might also be involved in the operations of other areas or jurisdictions, such as UKI, Nordics, Middle East or CE.
• You will be expected to develop and maintain your relationships with the business leaders in France and other jurisdictions. Your focus will be French law, but you might also be required to give generic advice in relation to other countries

· Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting, negotiating and interpreting a wide variety of commercial issues and transactions, varying in nature, complexity and value, from a simple NDA or a consultancy contract to a multi-million dollar technology or business outsourcing agreement.
• You will be responsible for the legal review and negotiation of commercial agreements with clients in a broad range of industries and work on all phases of deals, ranging from the proposal/bid review stages, right through to final negotiation, escalation to senior Cognizant leadership and dealing with any post signature issues.
• Other responsibilities include assisting with disputes, corporate transactions and integration activities and promoting strong corporate governance and risk mitigation practices, as well as advising on ad-hoc issues that arise on a daily basis and liaising as necessary with other members of the legal team and other corporate functions.

Requirements
• While commercial law experience is essential to this role (with French Bar Exam, Bac + 5 in IP/Commercial Law and with at least 7 years of experience), you must also have a commercial mindset and be fully bi-lingual (English and French) and be fully able to draft and negotiate commercial contracts in both languages.
• Your experience in working on IT contracts, advising on GDPR and IP related issues must be accompanied by the ability to balance legal risks with commercial and operational needs of the business. You should be able to demonstrate strong, effective and impactful communication skills and be able to communicate with people at all levels and backgrounds, being able to multitask with rapidly changing priorities in a dynamic working environment and have strong organisational skills.
