Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £45,585 to £54,395 with potential progression once in post to £61,198. Grade 8

Contract Type: Fixed Term contract up to January 2026

Role summary

The key areas of responsibility for the Project Manager are:
• Leading significant and complex projects to deliver new services to meet the objectives in the University Strategic Framework and local strategic plans. This will include managing the design, plan and delivery of the projects. This will involve developing and putting forward proposals for approval by the relevant senior management team or Authority Group.
• Providing comprehensive professional advice and cascading expertise on programme and project management to senior managers across IT Services, Professional Services and Colleges within the University, to enable the successful delivery of individual projects.
• Leading the development and delivery of project management methods, in line with best practice in the industry for all projects, including the provision of innovative solutions and responsibility for the quality control and quality assurance of the methodology. To also contribute to the development of the project management methodologies across Professional Services.

The post holder will be required to deliver a wide range of projects across the University including IT development and implementation, business change, and service delivery, and to provide comprehensive advice on project management to senior staff. The post holder is required to have sufficient knowledge and experience of project management to enable them to play an important role in furthering the long-term development of professional project management practices within the Project Office and the University.

Main duties

Project Management

Taking on the role of Project Manager for the range of projects within the remit of the Portfolio and Project Management Office. This will involve the use of the Prince2 methodology as implemented by the Portfolio and Project Management Office and may involve the use of Agile methodologies. Leading and managing significant and complex projects across Professional Services is the major part of the post holders responsibility involving the following aspects:
• Using the Portfolio and Project Management Office Prince2 methodology and the use of Agile methodologies where appropriate.
• Setting up of project boards and project teams.
• Working with the executive and customers to assess and interpret customer needs and to define the objectives and deliverables of the project.
• Implementing stakeholder management and maintaining regular contact with stakeholders to understand requirements, generate and negotiate solutions and ensure these requirements are delivered.
• Forward planning of projects to ensure that other areas of Professional Services and the University are involved early enough to plan for resource requirements and clearly understand the resource and timescales required for them.

Person Specification
• Degree level or equivalent.
• Considerable project management experience, with a successful track record of managing projects within timescale and budget.
• Formal training in project management techniques and methodology, particularly Prince2 or APMP accreditation, is highly desirable.
• Training and experience of Agile methodologies is highly desirable.
