• Research Analyst Cyber, Space and Future Conflict Programme Research Analyst Cyber, Space and Future Conflict Programme*Hours: Full-time Contract: Permanent Location:* London The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a world-leading research organisation that provides independent, objective information on military, geopolitical and geo-economic developments that could lead to conflict. The Institute is seeking to appoint a Research Analyst to contribute to the work of the Cyber, Space and Future Conflict programme. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals in the early stages of a career in the field of international relations. The successful applicant will be trained to manage the collection and analysis of military cyber information for the Military Balance+ database and assessments to be published in the Institute’s flagship publication, The Military Balance. Applicants should be aware that the role is predominantly centred on the collection and classification of information on the military cyber capabilities of several dozen states selected for analysis in the Military Balance+ database. Key Duties and Responsibilities * Undertake training on the job to enable the collection of information on IISS indicators of military cyber power, including: strategic documents, force structure and posture, and cyber exercises.
• Assess national military cyber capabilities, in collaboration with colleagues.
• In coordination with the Military Balance+ team, assist in the process of designing and executing a strategy for the inclusion of military cyber data in the Military Balance+ * Contribute to the Cyber, Space and Future Conflict Programme’s collection of information on the cyber capabilities of several dozen states.
• Compose written cyber ‘capability summaries’ of several dozen states for the Military Balance+. *Requirements* * Strong analytical and writing skills.
• Applicants should possess, or be studying for, at minimum an undergraduate degree (or higher) in international relations, international security, or a related field. Candidates studying for qualifications in cyber security or computing-related subjects are also welcome to apply, as are candidates undertaking studies in the social sciences, humanities and languages, but should justify in their cover letters a good knowledge of international relations and/or military affairs.
• 1-2 years of Workplace experience.
• Candidates should have working knowledge of at least one foreign language. Candidates with language skills are asked to indicate these on their cover letter along with their approximate CEFR level.
