Job Description : Sustainability Engineer

Job Summary:

Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, is a leading global engineering and design consultancy. We are seeking a Sustainability Engineer to join our Dubai office. As a Sustainability Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting our commitment to sustainable design and engineering solutions. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate sustainability principles into our projects and ensure compliance with environmental standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Sustainability Assessment: Conduct sustainability assessments and audits on various projects to identify opportunities for improving environmental performance and resource efficiency.

Environmental Compliance: Ensure that projects adhere to local and international environmental regulations, standards, and best practices.

Energy Efficiency: Evaluate and propose energy-efficient solutions and technologies to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions in buildings and infrastructure projects.

Green Building Certification: Assist in obtaining green building certifications such as LEED, Estidama, or equivalent for projects, including preparing documentation and coordinating with certification bodies.

Sustainable Design Integration: Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate sustainable design principles into project concepts, plans, and specifications.

Life Cycle Analysis: Perform life cycle assessments (LCA) to evaluate the environmental impacts of materials, processes, and design decisions, and provide recommendations for improvement.

Waste Reduction: Develop waste management plans and strategies to minimize waste generation and promote recycling and reuse on construction sites.

Renewable Energy: Explore opportunities for integrating renewable energy sources (solar, wind, etc.) into project designs and evaluate their feasibility.

Environmental Reporting: Prepare sustainability reports and documentation for clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.

Sustainable Procurement: Work with procurement teams to identify sustainable suppliers and materials that meet project requirements.

Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in sustainability and environmental engineering, and propose innovative solutions for projects.

Client Engagement: Communicate sustainability strategies and benefits to clients and assist in developing sustainable project proposals.

Qualifications and Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
• Professional certification in sustainability (e.g., LEED AP, Estidama PQP) is a plus.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in sustainability engineering or a related field. A must.
• Strong knowledge of sustainability principles, green building certifications, and environmental regulations in Dubai and the UAE.
• Proficiency in sustainability assessment tools and software.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Familiarity with construction and engineering project management processes.
• Knowledge of renewable energy technologies and energy modeling tools is an advantage.
• MEP experience is an added advantage.
