Responsibilities

The Legal Counsel, China will report to Regional Counsel, PFG Asia Pacific and matrix reporting to VP, Head of China. He/She will provide sound and timely legal advice and services to the Company; to ensure corporate affairs are conducted within the framework of applicable laws and regulations, internal policies and procedures and international best practices. He/She will manage legal projects in China (M&A, joint ventures, strategic alliances, etc.) through preparation of legal memoranda, agreements, correspondence, reports, forms, answering to requests for information, offering guidance and providing assistance in negotiations and presenting alternative solutions to the company.
• Act as a liaison between the regional office and entities in China, filtering corporate messages, policies and procedures, ensuring, wherever possible, consistency with corporate and standards and fostering a strong compliance culture.
• Perform legal research and analysis of regulations, laws, and statutes in the China market and advise as to the possible impact of the same to the China Entities.
• Handle company secretarial duties including preparation of board resolution, minutes and agenda for the annual general meeting and meetings of the board of directors of the China Entities.
• Handle any litigation, labour law issues, complaints or other disputes as and when required.
• Perform other job related duties and special projects as required.

Requirements
• A law degree or equivalent and qualified to practice law in a common law jurisdiction, plus at least 7-10 years of post-qualification private practice and/or in-house legal experience
• Thorough knowledge of laws and regulations in the area of financial services in China and other relevant Asian markets
• Knowledge and experience of working with Banking, Pension and other investment related products
• Excellent legal research capability, project management, organizational, negotiation and analytical skills
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with stakeholders and associates at all levels of seniority
• Highly adaptable with strong ability to work independently and/or work in a team environment
• Strong command of spoken & written English and Chinese
