The Electricity Infrastructure and Buildings Division is one of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's most innovative teams. The Optimization and Control Group within the Electricity Infrastructure and Buildings Division is currently looking for a Software Engineer with a strong background in software design, development and providing input or continuous system improvements and daily maintenance and support of the software. The successful candidate will contribute to and occasionally lead tasks related to software design, development, configuration, testing, and preparing professional system documents. The successful candidate will support several projects utilizing multiple technologies.

Responsibilities
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to take algorithms from theory to practice by designing and implementing code using software engineering best practices.
• Work with a team of software engineers to work toward successful project outcomes with maintainable code.
• Lead small to medium sized tasks and direct the work of other developers to achieve project goals.
• Assist and train users (frequently non-software engineers) to deploy and utilize the resulting code.
• Maintain deployed code to enable experimentation and data collection on time constrained shared resources and at external collaborator installations.
• Develop or contribute to end-user documentation in the conversion and implementation of software.
• Mentor junior staff and students.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
• BS/BA or higher

Preferred Qualifications:
• Algorithm design and implementation, troubleshooting, deployment, documentation, and testing
• Emphasis on Python development experience
• Additional programming language experience (not required): JavaScript, C++
• Knowledge of or experience with Docker, Ansible, or similar software
• Foundational knowledge of the software lifecycle and engineering best practice, including specification, documentation configuration management, testing and quality assurance
• Building networks at a local and capability level. Effectively teaming to share resources and optimize research and development at the group and division level. Mentoring team members at all organizational levels.
• Self-motived, excellent communication skills, an open mind, the ability to thrive in multidisciplinary teams, and the skills to balance great design with short deadlines
• Strong interpersonal and time management skills
• An understanding of the Agile Methodology for software development
