The Project Manager, Program Management will bring engineering and leadership skills to R&D activities related to single use disposable products. The candidate will play a lead role in managing and leading the product development activities for Diabetes Care products. This individual is responsible for leading the cross-functional core team, and its extended team members in product development program(s). Additionally this role is accountable for representing and managing BD’s interest by leveraging new and diverse approaches resulting in optimized solutions by leading the team through manufacturing, commercial, regulatory and technical problem solving and decision-making, ensuring that the functional experts are held accountable. Scope includes important initiative(s)/ product development program(s) within the Diabetes Care (DC) business unit. This includes planning, structuring and delivering progress reports to the senior leadership. The Project Manager will manage all aspects of scope, resources, and timeline for the program. In addition, the Project Manager will create and drive go-to-market strategy, gain business alignment & regional support, and ensure successful commercial launch. This will be accomplished with accountability to the franchise business leader. This high visibility leadership role will present frequently to senior leadership.

The Project Manager leads the team in executing all aspects of major product development projects including successful product development over the complete product life cycle (inception through development, high volume manufacturing, post launch and commercialization). This leader is ultimately responsible for the execution, quality and results of the project and the success of the resulting product in the market. This leader is responsible for the creation of the project work breakdown structures, integrated business plans and product requirements. Manage overall activities of team members; tracks progress against plan, manage the project budget, identify project risks and provide plans to mitigate those risks.

This person must ensure compliance with BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through appropriate communication, training, and education of sound quality assurance principles. This individual must also ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures.

• Provide coaching and mentor core team members and provide significant feedback to functional leaders regarding training needs for the core team members, resources required by the core team, and manage R&D resources dedicated to the project.
• Conduct successful commercial, design and business project reviews; make PDT aware of, and propose solutions to, unanticipated or potential issues/concerns as soon as they are known.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
• Define and drive value proposition for target patient population
• Create and effectively manage budget and resource allocation within the project team
• Develop objectives for each functional area, synthesize functional plans and identify critical interdependencies
• Conduct and encourage frequent formal and informal communication within the team to ensure full engagement and efficient operation
• Effectively organize and motivate a highly skilled, cross functional team
• Lead the cross functional development of the product architecture and drive successful execution
• Evaluate alternative development options to reduce time to market and minimize commercial and technical risk
• Create and drive go-to-market strategy, gaining business and regional support
• Actively support the commercial launch of the final system to the market and marketing during post-launch surveillance
• Ensure compliance with BD quality policies, procedures, and practices.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
• BS degree in a technical field such as Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or a closely related technical degree required. MS, MBA, and/or PHD preferred.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in product development with at least 2 years product development experience in high volume manufacturing medical devices/products.
• PMP certification or equivalent is preferred
• Must have strong project/project management and budgeting background in R&D or manufacturing environment.
• A six-sigma design and development background is preferred.
• Experience developing Class II and III medical devices.
• Has managed or overseen complex clinical trials with Class III devices, experience with drug/device combination products a plus.
• Experience with ISO requirements and GMP guidelines, FDA regulations, medical device design control, and manufacturing scale up processes.
• Experience with biological medical fluids and polymers a plus.
• Must be a skilled and determined communicator and negotiator.
• Must have strong leadership skills and be very relationship and collaborative oriented.
