Description

SQL Database Technician - Inside IR35

Contract Term: 3 Months (Possible Extension)

Contracting Authority: Department for Education

Location: Remote - Darlington, Sheffield or Coventry (Occasional travel)

As a SQL Database Technician your main responsibilities will be:
• Creating and maintaining data feeds in and out of the Data Platform.
• Responsible for indexing, partitioning, scheduling loads and optimising all databases that are part of Data Platform as a key priority.
• Monitoring and maintaining Azure platform.
• Creating and maintaining pipelines using ADF.
• Performing ad hoc data requests for the business where quick turnaround time is required for insight and critical decision making. This could be using a variety of technologies and working across Azure and SQL Server.
• Documenting all interface specifications for data feeds coming in and out of the Data Platform.
• Ensuring that data encryption, obfuscation and access management of the data layer are in place and maintained.
• Assisting the wider team with data optimisation, indexing and partitioning tasks. This resource would also review other developer's SQL queries and interfaces to highlight performance issues and adherence to industry best practice.
• Working with the Service Management team to resolve any production issues that require specialist support during normal business hours.
• Maintain and extend ETL process monitoring, outputs and alerts.
• Actively working with users to understand data issues, tracing back data lineage and helping the business put appropriate data cleansing and quality processes in place.
• Managing secure access to data sets for the business.
• Optimising and reviewing all ETL and database processes to ensure that the platform is running efficiently and cost effectively.

You'll have relevant experience in:
• SQL development, SSIS experience and strong documentation skills.
• Strong DBA and SQL coding experience.
• SQL Server and Azure – Strong knowledge and experience.
• Extensive experience developing using T-SQL, relational databases, SSIS and other ETL technologies.
• Azure Data Factory knowledge.
• Strong technical skills relating to the support, maintenance and operation of a primarily Windows-based technical estate on Azure including AD groups, storage accounts and containers, file shares, ODBC connections, installing software.
• Good understanding of Azure security principles and tools including IAM, RBACS, PIM, Azure Defender and Vulnerability Assessments and recommendations.
• Experience of other Azure PaaS databases such as PostgreSQL and Cosmos DB.
• Experience of using and supporting Databricks.
• Platform monitoring.
• Azure automation experience.
• Working knowledge of REST APIs.
• Experience using Cloud technologies and tooling for Azure.
• Experience of SQL server patching.
