Customer Applications Engineer - AI Workloads & System Software

The Role: The Data Center Customer Applications Engineer working with AI Workloads & System Software is responsible for the technical execution of AMD's data center GPU hardware/software subsystem projects for our major OEM customers, AMD partner companies and end-customers. This position offers a unique opportunity to apply your strong graphics, compute, data center, virtualization skills, AI / Machine Learning as well as your program management skills, to collaboratively work with customers that use AMD Instinct™ Accelerators.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide hardware and software technical guidance and information to our customers in support of their server graphics and compute projects for AI and Machine Learning workloads.
• Reproduce, debug and resolve hardware / software technical issues in customer designs that use AMD Instinct™ products.
• Assist development teams to root cause hardware / software technical issues and help to drive them to closure in a timely manner during the entire product lifecycle (i.e. from initial hardware bring-up through product end-of-life).
• Own the AMD/customer technical relationships and the day-to-day technical requirements of ongoing customer projects.
• Provide hardware / software technical guidance to internal technical and business teams based on customer feedback.
• Partner with program manager on project schedules, maintain action items tracker, ensure deliverables are met, provide project status updates to customers and AMD management.
• Update customers on future products and technologies as required.
• Capture and interpret system bus traces using a logic analyzer. Set up systems and hosts for remote debug. Set up systems for hardware analysis using a JTAG interface and provide electrical analysis using diagnostic equipment.
• Build datacenter GPU dockers and containers for customers to test and deploy.
• Qualify and assess new software functionality.

Preferred Experience
• Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent. Master of Engineering degree and PMP certification are highly desirable.
• 7+ years experience in a server / virtualization applications engineering / customer support technical role.
• Very strong Linux knowledge, setup, usage, debug in a data center environment.
• Strong knowledge of VDI environment, such as hypervisor vendors (VMWare, Citrix, KVM, Microsoft, etc.) and virtual machine setup and management.
• Strong knowledge and experience operating systems Windows Server, Linux, drivers, ROCM stack and firmware BIOS/GOP.
• Strong knowledge of server architecture and functionality, including server remote management.
• Strong knowledge and experience with data center graphics software and hardware subsystems.
• Strong hardware / software debug, problem solving, and analysis skills.
• Familiarity with AI / Machine learning workloads, frameworks and models.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including English and knowledge of program management methodologies.
• Ability to work well with internal and external engineering experts (and non-experts) to develop practical solutions to challenging technical problems.
• Self-started, detail oriented, organized, and capable of multi-tasking in a fast-moving environment.
• Motivated to provide highly responsive support as needed and to work independently.

Academic Credentials:

Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent. Master of Engineering degree and PMP certification are highly desirable.
