Systems Administrator
Location: 99% remote, may require occasional travel to client site in Atlanta
Duration: 6 months with potential for extension or conversion
Pay rate: $46.50 on W2 (sorry, this client cannot provide Visa sponsorship now or in the future)

Overview of work environment/workspace
Work is nearly completely remote. Must have reliable high-speed internet connectivity. Laptop will be provided but monitors, keyboard and mice will need to supplied by candidate. Communication and meetings are conducted via MS Teams
How will this role interact and support the team? Size of team?
Team is 13 people. Consists of infrastructure, bioinformatics, developer and training and support teams. This position is in infrastructure group. Will interact with CDC team and CDC staff as well.
Details of the project this role will support
Support CDC with scientific computing infrastructure. For context: This team is serving CDC mission in area of public health. Some of the work the team is doing at the moment directly impacts the CDC public health response, including COVID-19 surveillance and other outbreak investigations. Data is primarily pathogen genomic sequences.

Being flexible, versatile, troubleshooting and having great customer service and documentation skills on top of the tech skills
What do you foresee as the biggest challenge of this assignment/role?
Being able to meet the computational needs of scientists by supporting their software and analyses needs
What is a typical work day?
Resolving helpdesk tickets, maintenance/troubleshooting and long-term projects. Meetings with customer, other team members

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor’s Degree in IT, computer science, engineering, or another relevant field or equivalent experience (4 additional years of experience)
· A minimum of 8+ years (System Administrator) of industry experience in the areas of infrastructure engineering
· Display commensurate knowledge consistent with a RedHat Certified System Administrator and RedHat Certified Systems Engineer
· Experience working at the CDC or other federal government agencies.
· Large scale infrastructure design and implementation project experience
Cloud Implementation
· Experience supporting a high-performance computing infrastructure.
· High level of proficiency in troubleshooting Linux performance issues
· Familiarity with security vulnerability triage and remediation
· Periodically travel to Metro Atlanta Datacenter as needed.
· Position requires US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency Status and the ability to obtain a Public Trust.
· Clearance as well as 3 years of current and consecutive US residence.
