Purpose Statement

The job of Network Administrator-Information Security is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the technology department and the district as a whole with specific responsibilities for designing, configuring, installing, maintaining, and supporting secure operations; overseeing the secure operations of technology in the district to protect data; providing information, direction, and/or recommendations regarding security best practices; identifying and responding to network threats; and providing technical support to the district staff.

This job reports to Coordinator of Network Services

Essential Functions

Administers information security systems and services related to district operations for the purpose of ensuring compliance with district policies, best practices, and department standards to provide security.

Assists in the development and maintenance of several security programs and plans (e.g. end user security awareness, incident response, business continuity, disaster recovery plans, etc.) for the purpose of providing the district with proactive plans and programs to handle security concerns.

Assists in the creation of secure configuration and maintenance of all aspects of the district's computing environment and information security related systems for the purpose of ensuring the security of district information and systems.

Evaluates systems, procedures, standards, and policies for the purpose of recommending changes and ensuring the security of the District's systems and data in compliance with information security best practices and District policies.

Maintains manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. security infrastructure, procedures, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference materials and documents.

Monitors the technology servers, systems, infrastructure, user accounts, logs, and endpoints regularly using security monitoring and vulnerability assessment tools for the purpose of identifying issues that need resolution and coordinating with the appropriate teams to remediate said issues.

Participates in assigned projects (e.g. migration to new systems, scheduling, installations, product research, etc.) for the purpose of delivering service to meet established organizational goals and/or objectives.

Participates in a variety of planning and development activities for the purpose of creating short and long range plans for network security support to the district.

Prepares written materials (e.g. procedures, system level documentation, reports, memos, letters, emails, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.

Recommends equipment, supplies, and materials for the purpose of acquiring required items and completing jobs efficiently.

Researches trends, products, equipment, tests, etc. for the purpose of recommending procedures and/or purchases.

Responds to inquiries and help tickets from a variety of sources (e.g. staff, administrators, school site personnel, outside vendors and service providers, etc.) for the purpose of providing technical assistance and support.

Trains other District staff (primarily within the technology area) for the purpose of developing a department wide awareness of information security best practices and initiatives.

Troubleshoots issues with security related systems within the District for the purpose of resolving service issues and restoring services.

Other Functions

Performs other related duties for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: utilizing pertinent network, application, operating system monitoring and troubleshooting security issues; adhering to safety practices; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: current generation legacy system management; related system standards, security, design, and configuration; data security; project management; technologies and tools; and processes and methodology.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
