Position Summary:

Bechtel is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer to join the engineering department within the Manufacturing and Technology Business Unit (M&T). The prime roles and responsibilities include:

Assigned on project responsible for integration of environmental issues and requirements into planning documents, permit applications, design specifications and criteria, construction plans and schedules, bid specifications, and contract packages from conceptual phase to EPC phase. Plans and conducts independent work within M&T to support all business lines (Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, and Data Center) requiring judgment in evaluation, selection, application and adaption of design on a project. Knows applicable industry standards and codes, accepted design practices and quality standards for a global business unit.

Job Dimensions:

A. Supervision Received
• Receives operational supervision and technical guidance from a Project Engineering Manager, Area Project Engineer, Supervisor, or Chief Engineer.

B. Supervision Exercised
• Provides operational direction and technical guidance to subordinate engineer personnel as directed.

C. Contacts
• Establishes and maintains communication with design and engineering supervisors in charge of related disciplines and with administrative personnel within the group or project. Consults with permitting parties, design and construction subcontractors, technical specialists, other disciplines/functions and client representatives as directed to provide and receive technical information and to ensure the coordination of the work within the project or assignment and compliance with Bechtel/client requirements.

Responsibilities:
• Coordinates integration of environmental requirements and issues into planning documents, permit applications, design criteria, construction plans, schedules, and subcontract documents.
• Interprets requirements and applies scientific principles and methods to scopes of work.
• Provides technical support and guidance regarding environmental mitigation tasks, controls, sustainability concepts, and protection of environmentally sensitive areas, species, and communities.
• Researches issues and regulatory requirements and prepares scientific documentation and reports.
• Provides technical support within ES&H teams and to engineering, construction, commissioning and startup, operations, and management personnel regarding permitting, risk assessment, studies, and ES&H program execution.
• Assists in the preparation and implementation of the project Environmental Management Plan, associated plans and procedures, and environmental awareness training.
• Participates in emergency response and aids the investigation and resolution of environmental incidents.
• Assists in identifying stakeholders and resolving their concerns.
• Provides input to Engineering, Construction, Commissioning and Startup, Procurement, Subcontracts, Operations, and other project groups to make sure that environmental and sustainability requirements are properly integrated within project planning, design, construction, plans, and subcontracts.
• Participates in meetings, as required, with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of environmental requirements that may affect their work.
• Conducts inspections, sampling, and monitoring to help evaluate ES&H performance, identify the need for corrective actions, and confirm compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel ES&H requirements.
• Analyses data, helps track ES&H performance and trends. and prepares reports.
• Provides support for ES&H team members and tasks, inclusive of all three ES&H disciplines.
• Participate in environmental compliance audits.
• Develops and maintains environmental risk and legal registers.
• Supports compliance of Bechtel environmental Core processes and client specific standards per the environmental management plan.
• Promotes the creation of a work environment, supported by leadership, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:
• Level 1: Master of Science degree in environmental sciences, field biology or natural resources from an accredited university or college (or international equivalent) with minimum 10 years of progressive relevant experience, OR Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) related to environmental sciences, field biology, or natural resources and 13+ years of relevant experience.
• Level 2: Master of Science degree in environmental sciences, field biology or natural resources from an accredited university or college (or international equivalent) with minimum 12 years of progressive relevant experience, OR Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) related to environmental sciences, field biology, or natural resources and 15+ years of relevant experience.
• Prior experience on executing structural works in EPC projects.
• General knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups associated with the total design effort.
• Knowledge of global business unit activities and operations including business development, legal, procurement, construction, environmental safety and health (ES&H), and quality assurance.
• Knowledge in regulations of urban planning, water, sanitary, electrical, fuel, telecommunications, etc.
• Proven skills for obtaining and managing permits in public and private entities.
• Prior work experience being responsible for the engineering progress and performance reporting within a project earned value management system and trending program.
• Demonstrated ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior work experience and responsibility for the supervision on a medium or major size project at Bechtel.
• Knowledge of Bechtel Engineering Department Procedures.
• Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, or Data Center.
